Rodrigues Island, Mauritius | September 2026

In September 2026, researchers from the Prisons, Drugs and Mental Health (PDMH) programme visited Rodrigues Island to explore imprisonment, mental health, rehabilitation and wellbeing in a small-island context. Working alongside the Mauritius Prison Service, the team engaged with prison staff and detainees and met representatives from the Rodrigues Regional Assembly, prison welfare services and local community organisations. The visit also explored rehabilitation initiatives and the role of community partnerships in supporting reintegration after imprisonment.

During the visit, the PDMH project was featured by Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation Rodrigues, providing an opportunity to share the research with a wider public audience.
